Born on Third Base
Chuck Collins' book, Born on Third Base: A One Percenter Makes the Case for Tackling Inequality, Bringing Wealth Home, and Committing to the Common Good, explains why inequality in its many forms impacts everyone. Collins was born into wealth but gave up a substantial inheritance in order to pursue his own life. Even though he gave away his fortune, he still refers himself as one of the wealthy. In the United States, he mentions, the wealthiest 1 percent have 42 percent share of US wealth in 2012. Money makes money, therefore, t he rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer in the United States. To be honest, I never really thought about inequality of wealth in our nation and I was quite surprised by the percentage of wealth the top 1 percent of US households are having. I feel like most of us, low to middle income households are disenfranchised by the system and being ignored and forgotten. I think we really need to demand change to ...
